Nueva York, NY, June 15, 2011 - The Hispanic AIDS Forum (HAF) steadfastly supports the marriage equality for lesbians and gays as a basic human right. In the 25 years serving the gay Latino community in New York, we have witnessed how discrimination harms individuals, tears families apart, and fosters violence in our society.

HAF applauds the courage and the leadership of Governor Cuomo in introducing the Marriage Equality bill which will eventually grant the legal right to marriage to all New Yorkers regardless of their sexual orientation. HAF supports the Governor and the bill unequivocally.

“As a gay man, I am filled with joy in the hope that I'll go to sleep on June 20th with the knowledge that reason and justice have triumphed over bigotry and oppression directed at homosexuals”, said Heriberto Sanchez Soto, HAF’s Executive Director.

About the Hispanic AIDS Forum

HAF was established in 1985 as the first Latino organization in New York fully dedicated to addressing the needs of Latinos affected by HIV. Since then we have worked tirelessly to fight for our rights and to build a self-supporting community of gay and bisexual Latino men. We offer a variety of services and activities designed to nurture our social, physical and emotional well being, to support personal growth, and to build a stronger community. We have offices in the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. For information about our services please visit www.hafnyc.org or call 212-563-4500
